I’ve got first course in Introduction of Music Production last week. Since that, I think I really need to re-examine my own understanding of music production which is very important to my future direction.
I’m always thinking that music production is just to use DAW to creating and arranging music, so I don’t even thinking about composition, mixing and recording.
Now I’m realize that a music producer need act as director when they produce music, and create a key framework to whole music work, we need to decide the whole feeling of the music but not just settle down with composition or arrangement. Any single production step is not called music production and a music producer is aim to make records.
Because of a misconception about music production before that I got big weakness about mixing and recording music. I still need to learn lot of things and I think I need to decide what I going to do next, like which direction I going to choose for my music production course.
And I believe that learning how to make music is like learning how to play musical instruments. It requires mastering the relevant software and hardware operations, judging the timbre and sound characteristics, and using them in composition.
And I also believe that having interpersonal skills is a very important part of becoming a producer. At the same time, an excellent producer must have a good musical taste and master contemporary music knowledge and the history of classic song works.
